These worms are the species Eisenia hortensis or Dendrobaena, we refer to them as ?commercial? for several reasons, they are the most commonly farmed worm and this is reflected in the cost, they are a tough worm and put up with the rigours of being stored and transported, particularly in large quantities but are a little slower in breeding and therefore the composting rate is a little slower. They are often, mistakenly, sold as Tiger worms. They are an ideal worm where larger scale worm composting is needed, particularly where the organic matter to be composted can be on the wet side.
